2002 Porsche GT2

2002 Porsche GT2 engine is based on the race-proven GT1 unit used in the historic 50th anniversary one-two at Le Mans. The water-cooled, twin-turbo flat six develops 340 kW (462 bhp) from a displacement of 3,600 cm3, with maximum torque of 620 Nm available between 3,500 and 4,500 rpm. In addition to optimised cylinder charging, the new 911 GT2 engine offers outstanding balance and refinement. Another key engine feature is VarioCam Plus, the latest evolution of the Porsche variable valve control system, which now also includes variable valve lift on the inlet side.

As a result, the new 911 GT2 delivers maximum power and torque over much of the engine range, while offering a significant improvement in fuel economy. Dry sump lubrication ensures a reliable supply of oil to the engine - even under the extreme loads encountered during cornering, acceleration and braking on the track. The electronic engine management system has also been improved to guarantee optimum engine performance in all driving conditions. Power is fed through a six-speed manual gearbox, with each individual ratio carefully selected to provide strong, seamless acceleration through the gears. The race-proven cable-operated gearshift mechanism guarantees smooth, precision gear changes while eliminating vibration from the engine and gearbox.

In addition to being the most powerful 911 on the road, the new GT2 is also one of the safest. The innovative Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB), for example, uses a specially treated carbon-fiber disc that is both stronger and lighter than conventional metal equivalents. Cross-drilled and internally vented for added performance, the PCCB disc offers unprecedented levels of durability. PCCB also provides a more sensitive action and more effective response, coping effortlessly with the enormous loads encountered when braking from high speed

GT2 chassis delivers one of the most dynamic driving experiences ever featured on a production Porsche - without compromising on comfort. Race-ready handling combines with outstanding agility and safety to offer the perfect ride in all road conditions. The key to that performance is the lowered centre of gravity - around 20 mm lower than the 911 Turbo - plus the revised coil spring and damper configuration
