2019 NISSAN TITAN XD

2019 Nissan TITAN XD: Overview

2019 Nissan TITAN XD again offers heavy duty attitude with choice of two engines adds innovative Rear Door Alert and available Fender® Premium Audio System

  • Nissan’s flagship TITAN XD full-size pickup features a range of models built with commercial strength components
  • Combines many capabilities of a heavy-duty hauler with the drivability and affordability of a light-duty pickup
  • TITAN’s innovation leadership includes cutting-edge towing, utility and driving aids
  • New 7.0-inch touchscreen audio/IT display with NissanConnect® featuring Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ now standard on all models

When it was first introduced in 2016, the Nissan TITAN XD shook up the highly competitive full-size pickup segment in the United States and Canada with a bold design and capabilities that staked out a unique position in the segment between traditional heavy-duty and light-duty entries. TITAN XD offers some of the effortless towing and hauling of the larger, more expensive heavy-duty trucks – including an available maximum towing capacity of 12,710 pounds and maximum payload capacity of 2,990 pounds (when properly equipped) – yet with fuel-efficiency and affordability closer to a half-ton pickup.

Now in its third year, the 2019 TITAN XD lineup includes Crew Cab, King Cab and Single Cab body styles, two bed lengths, choice of a powerful Cummins® 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel or Nissan 5.6-liter Endurance® V8 engines, 4×4 or 4×2 drivelines and up to five well-equipped grade levels.

For the 2019 model year, TITAN XD features a range of enhancements – starting with a new Fender®Premium Audio System. It is offered as standard on TITAN XD Crew Cab SL and Platinum grade levels (with 12 speakers) and optional on TITAN XD PRO-4X Crew Cab and King Cab (with 10 speakers) models. The system’s 485-watt, 9-channel amplifier with Panasonic’s proprietary Acoustic Motion Controlrenders the reverberation and ambience of original recordings with stunning realism. It is designed to provide the precise, tight bass sound control usually reserved for a studio rather than a full-size pickup. The result is the delivery of “arena-sized sound” to the roomy TITAN XD cabins.

Other TITAN XD changes for 2019 include:

  • A new 7.0-inch touchscreen audio/IT display with NissanConnect® featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • New Rear Door Alert (RDA) system1, which helps remind drivers to check the back seat after the vehicle is parked, added as standard equipment on TITAN XD King Cab and Crew Cab models
  • An additional USB media port (two total)
  • A pair of illuminated USB-A charge ports added to PRO-4X, SL and Platinum Reserve grades
  • A new body-color outer grille with gloss metallic black inner treatment for the SV grade (replaces the previous chrome grille treatment)
  • New integrated gooseneck hitch with a plug inside the bed for even greater ease of towing
  • Larger capacity DEF tank
  • Two new exterior paint colors: Midnight Pine Metallic and Moab Sunset Metallic

TITAN XD once again offers a Midnight Edition Package, which is available on Diesel Crew Cab SV and SL grade 4×4 models and provides a custom look straight from the factory. The TITAN XD Midnight Edition Package includes body color front grille with dark insert, dark headlamps, black fog lamp finisher, black exterior badging, black mirrors, black door handles, 20-inch black wheels, body color front and rear bumpers, black step rains, black interior trim and “Midnight Edition” exterior badge

All 2019 TITAN XD models are covered by America’s Best Truck Warranty2, featuring bumper-to-bumper coverage of 5-years/100,000-miles, whichever comes first.

Built from the Work Job Up with Commercial Strength
Nissan TITAN XD starts with a focus on commercial strength components – from the radiator to the rear axle and everything in between. Every TITAN XD model is built on a unique frame and chassis (compared to the TITAN half-ton) to handle the Cummins® diesel and Endurance® V8 gas engines, as well as the truck’s expanded towing and payload potential.

Utilizing a durable, proven chassis design from Nissan Commercial Vehicles, the fully boxed, full-length ladder frame is extensively reinforced and strengthened for use with the TITAN XD with added stiffness, vertical and lateral bending, and torsional rigidity. It also features an extended 151.6-inch wheelbase – about 20 inches longer than TITAN models.

To maximize stability, handling and ride comfort, TITAN XD uses a heavy-duty, highly stable suspension design. The double-wishbone with stabilizer bar front suspension is reinforced and tuned for hard use, and the rigid rear axle suspension utilizes hefty leaf springs and leaf bushings, along with twin-tube shock absorbers. The axle is a large purpose-built American Axle Manufacturing design. The rear differential measures 9.84 inches with 3.5-inch axle tubes, while the front differential (4×4 models) measures 9.25 inches. Both are manufactured by American Axle. Also available is an Electronic Locking Rear Differential.

Hydraulic cab-mounts help isolate occupants from the advanced TITAN XD chassis. The TITAN XD rides on 17-inch, 18-inch or 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with LT245/75R17, LT275/65R18 or LT265/60R20 tires for strong all-weather/all-surface traction.

Braking is provided by a 4-wheel disc system with 14.2 x 1.5-inch front/14.4 x 1.2-inch rear ventilated discs with hydraulic power assist. The high brake fluid pressure generated by an electric pump assists brake pedal force for a confident feel.

Responsive steering is provided by a recirculating ball-type high-capacity steering system with parallel rod steering linkage to optimize steering effort characteristics, even under heavy axle weight and towing conditions.

Even the radiator’s heat radiation cooling capacity is engineered to help enhance performance and meet SAE J2807 compliance. TITAN XD engine capacity meets 12,000-plus pound tow requirements through use of the large radiator, air transmission cooler and large 23.6-inch engine cooling fan diameter.

Cummins® 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel – Power, Durability and MPG
Like the TITAN XD itself, the Cummins® 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel fills the space between more expensive big bore diesels and less capable smaller displacement diesels. And more than just power and torque, the engine is refined, starts fast and is responsive and quiet. It is also lightweight and offers clean emissions.

The TITAN XD’s Cummins® diesel features the Cummins® M2 two-stage turbo system, which helps reduce traditional turbo-lag through precision balancing between high-pressure and low-pressure turbos. The patented Rotary Turbine Control provides solid performance across the powerband and manages exhaust gas temperatures.

The engine also includes a Bosch® HPCR fuel system to deliver precise fuel control and multiple injections per combustion stroke, which helps increase efficiency and reduce traditional “diesel clatter.” And, the advanced, maintenance-free Bosch® ceramic glow plugs provide quick engine starts, even in extreme low temperatures.

Another key advantage of the Cummins® diesel design is that it provides maximum durability and power in a lightweight package. Weight was reduced by building the cylinder block out of compacted graphite iron (CGI), which is stronger and lighter than traditional iron. Other lightweight engine components were added, including high-strength aluminum-alloy heads and composite valve covers. The CGI block, along with the dual overhead camshafts, also contributes to the engine’s excellent noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) characteristics.

The Cummins® 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel exhaust system has a particulate filter and selective catalytic reduction that enable the engine to run cleaner. That technology also serves a second purpose – reducing typical diesel noise. As a result of all these advanced systems, the Cummins® 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel is more capable than small displacement diesel engine offerings and less expensive than big bore heavy-duty diesels.

It is designed to be fun-to-drive, with about 45 percent more torque at cruising speed than similar-sized gasoline V8 engines. And, its low revving powerband requires less downshifting and provides more confidence while towing, as well as saving fuel whether towing or carrying heavy loads. For 2019, the TITAN XD Diesel also adds a larger capacity DEF tank.

Helping handle the power and torque of the engine is a heavy-duty 6-speed Aisin A466ND automatic transmission developed and tuned exclusively for the TITAN XD.

Nissan 5.6-liter Endurance® V8 – 390 HP, DIGTM Technology
Nissan’s advanced 5.6-liter Endurance® V8 engine – the same engine used in TITAN and Armada – is cast, forged and assembled at Nissan’s Powertrain Assembly Plant in Decherd, Tennessee3. The engine features four-valves per cylinder, Variable Valve Event & Lift and Direct Injection, and is rated at 390 horsepower @ 5,800 rpm and 394 lb-ft of torque @ 4,000 rpm. The 5.6-liter Endurance® V8 is backed by a 7-speed automatic transmission.

The engine includes Nissan’s advanced VVEL (Variable Valve Event & Lift) technology, which combines hydraulic-controlled variable valve timing and electronically controlled variable valve lift on the intake and exhaust sides to provide high performance and crisp response. The engine also features Direct Injection Gas (DIG) technology, which provides better wide-open throttle performance and improved fuel economy and emissions performance (versus a non-direct-injection system) by reducing engine knock, improving combustion stability and offering precise injection control. An 11.2:1 compression ratio is provided by a new piston design, aiding overall engine efficiency and performance (previous Titan: 9.8:1) and a Multi Control Valve (MCV) assists in managing the engine’s thermal efficiency better than a traditional thermostat.

In addition, Nissan TITAN XD 4×4 models feature a transfer case designed to ensure maximum power distribution in every gear. It distributes torque to both ends and provides four-wheel drive when added traction is needed on snow, ice, sand, mud, muck, dirt, water, gravel – whatever the job site presents.

Durable off-road performance has also been emphasized, with features such as Hill Descent Control, Hill Start Assist and Brake Limited-Slip Differential (BLSD). An off-road gauge uses accelerometer data to calculate the vehicle’s pitch and roll angles.

Towing and Hauling – Informed and In Control
TITAN XD models equipped with the 5.0L Cummins® diesel have a maximum payload of 2,490 pounds (when properly equipped) and a maximum towing rating of 12,710 pounds (when properly equipped).

Equipped with the 5.6L Endurance® gasoline V8, maximum payload is rated at 2,990 pounds (when properly equipped) and a maximum towing rating of 11,680 pounds (when properly equipped).

Among the list of TITAN XD’s available towing aids are an Integrated Trailer Brake Controller, Trailer Sway Control (TSC), Tow/Haul Mode with Downhill Speed Control and a Trailer Light Check system that allows one-person hook-up operation – checking turn signals, brake lights and running/clearance lights from inside the TITAN cab or with the key fob.

Also assisting trailer hook-ups is the TITAN XD’s available RearView Monitor with Trailer Guides, while the available Intelligent Around View® Monitor (I-AVM)4 provides a composite “bird’s eye” view of the surrounding area from front, rear and side cameras to help with parking and pulling in and out of tight spaces. The system also includes Moving Object Detection (MOD), which helps alert the driver to detected moving objects around the vehicle via an on-screen notification and warning chime.

Helping TITAN XD owners take advantage of its ample towing power are a range of available hitches – including an integrated gooseneck hitch engineered into the frame and easily accessible in the bed. Gooseneck hitches put the load in front of the rear axle, enhancing the ability to control the vehicle. New for 2019, the integrated gooseneck hitch includes a plug inside the bed for even greater ease of towing. The 2019 Nissan TITAN XD meets the J2807 certification’s standards.

TITAN XD also includes a range of available advanced driving aids, including Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Front and Rear Sonar System and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

Smart Design, Smart Utility
The 2019 Nissan TITAN XD is offered in three body configurations. TITAN XD Crew Cab features four wide-opening doors and a 6.5-foot bed. TITAN XD King Cab includes with 172-degree wide-opening rear doors for easy access to the rear seat, while the TITAN XD Single Cab offers two doors and an 8.0-foot bed.

Inspired by a theme of “powerful precision tool,” the TITAN XD exterior provides a bold, commanding presence with a fresh, modern technical feel. The designers sought to give TITAN a feeling of athletic strength – a look that honors the power of the Cummins® diesel and Endurance® V8 engines.

The profile of the TITAN XD, with its extended front overhang, was actually influenced by the engine, to incorporate the high performance grille, charged air cooler and two-battery installation. Aerodynamics also played a role in the exterior design, which is improved from the previous Titan and incorporates a front spoiler, roof and tailgate spoilers, front tow hook hole cover, underbody covers, rear tire wind deflectors and a seal between the cab and bed. Available exterior features include LED headlights and taillights, signature Daytime Running Lights, puddle lamps, and step rails for cabin and bed entry/exit.

TITAN’s innovative Utili-track® Bed Channel System features four heavy-duty aluminum alloy cleats that move and lock anywhere along the walls, bed floor and header tracks that give the user endless tie-down possibilities.

TITAN XD also offers available dual lockable in-bed “TITAN Box” storage boxes that sit sight-unseen at street level and can hold a wide range of essential work and recreational equipment. Unlike other pickup bed storage boxes, the TITAN XD units are accessible from inside the bed without having to remove a camper top or tonneau cover. The boxes are watertight (and drainable) and can be used as a cooler for picnics or tailgating. They are also easily removable for times when extra bed capacity is required.

Other TITAN XD bed features include the popular spray-on bedliner, flush-mounted LED bedrail lighting, cargo and tailgate lamps, 110-volt in-bed access and a damped tailgate that is light to lift and smoothly damped when lowering.

For 2019, TITAN XD is available in 11 exterior colors: Java Metallic, Forged Copper Metallic, Magnetic Black Metallic, Brilliant Silver Metallic, Gun Metallic, Cayenne Red Metallic, Pearl White (premium color), Glacier White, Deep Blue Pearl Metallic and new Midnight Pine Metallic and Moab Sunset Metallic (premium color).

A Big Cabin with a Bold and Commanding Presence
Trucks today are multi-functional, used as work and as everyday vehicles – so the interior has to be multi-functional as well. The designers focused on enhanced utility and on making the interior easy to use through an improved layout of switches, driver controls and storage spaces. The 2nd row underseat storage, for example, includes a locking lid for added security and the integrated foldout flat floor. The center console can hold a computer tablet with case or a 15-inch laptop.

All switches are grouped by function type and location is based on frequency of use. Other convenient interior design features include seven assist grips, console-side map pockets, 12-volt and 110-volt power outlets (in addition to the bed) and Remote Engine Start5 with climate control function. The special attention to detail even includes moving the glove compartment handle to the left hand side for easier access by the driver.

The TITAN XD also features a tilt and telescoping steering column with a standard column-mounted transmission shifter lever – a move that helps increase the visibility and usability of the center stack area. This also opened up the center console for additional storage, allowing riders to fit a laptop in the center console without giving up rear cupholders and 2nd row climate control vents.

The premium grade instrument panel includes a combination of analog and digital gauges, along with a new 7.0-inch touchscreen audio/IT display with NissanConnect® featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on all models. The panel also offers unique diesel monitoring and maintenance displays, and available Nissan Door to Door Navigation and NissanConnect® Services powered by SiriusXM® (SiriusXM®subscription required, sold separately).

As in other Nissan vehicles, TITAN XD offers seating inspired by NASA. The standard front and rear Zero Gravity seats help maximize posture positioning for enhanced comfort during long distance driving. Heating and cooling front seats are also available, along with a choice of water-repellant fabric or durable leather-appointments. Heated front and rear seats are available in both cloth and leather trim levels.

Special attention was also paid to reducing the intrusion of noise and vibration into the cabin. TITAN XD utilizes laminated front and rear (Crew Cab) side glass, the first full-size pickup to do so. Engine noise isolation and body sealing was also improved versus the previous generation Titan design.

“America’s Best Truck Warranty”:

5 Years/100,000 miles bumper-to-bumper for 2017 TITAN and TITAN XD

  • 5-year/100,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty beats competitors’ standard protection programs by two years and 64,000 miles
  • Includes powertrain warranty – helping give Nissan full-size truck owners added trust and peace of mind
  • Covers all 2017 TITAN Endurance® V8 gas and 2017 TITAN XD Cummins® diesel and Endurance V8 gasoline-powered models
  • New limited warranty matches that of all models of Nissan Commercial Vehicles, including NV Cargo, NV Passenger and NV200

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nissan today announced “America’s Best Truck Warranty”* on its 2017 TITAN and TITAN XD full-size pickups – featuring bumper-to-bumper coverage of 5-years/100,000-miles, whichever comes first. The announcement is part of Nissan’s “Year of the Truck” – a new product onslaught of pickups, SUVs and CUVs.

Vehicles covered by the new warranty – which includes basic and powertrain coverage – include all TITAN V8 gasoline-powered models and diesel and V8 gasoline-powered 2017 TITAN XD models, including both 4×4 and 4×2 drive configurations, in Crew Cab and recently revealed Single Cab models. The 2017 TITANs and TITAN XDs are scheduled to begin arriving at Nissan dealers nationwide later this month.

“We’re pleased to now offer the same confidence-inspiring protection as our commercial vehicles for our entire range of 2017 TITAN and TITAN XD full-size pickups,” said Fred Diaz, division vice president and general manager, North America Trucks and Light Commercial Vehicles, Nissan North America, Inc. “The new bumper-to-bumper coverage shows customers that Nissan stands behind the quality of its vehicles – including the ones that are subject to the hardest use.”

Nissan introduced “America’s Best Commercial Van Warranty” – also 5 years / 100,000 miles – in June 2014 as a demonstration of confidence in its expanding light commercial vehicle lineup. The results have been very positive, with Nissan NV Cargo and Passenger van sales up nearly 10 percent in 2016; NV200 cargo van sales have increased 17 percent through July.

“Nissan Commercial Vehicle models have experienced remarkable longevity, with some registering more than 500,000+ miles of relatively wear-free service**,” added Diaz. “We think that extending the same coverage to our full-size pickups, whether used for personal or commercial use, is a game changer in the segment.”

The all-new, category-busting TITAN XD was introduced for the 2016 model year, leading Nissan’s all-out assault on the highly competitive full-size truck segment.

For the 2017 model year, Nissan adds an all-new TITAN half-ton pickup, powered by Nissan’s new 390-horsepower 5.6-liter Endurance® V8 engine, to the expanding TITAN XD lineup. TITAN XD is currently offered in a Crew Cab body with a choice of a powerful Cummins® 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel or the Endurance® V8. New TITAN XD and TITAN Single Cabs, the first single cab variants in TITAN history, join the lineup in late fall. A King Cab body configuration, along with a V6 engine, will follow at a later date.

“TITAN will ultimately be available in a total of three cabs, three bed lengths, three engines, 4×4 and 4×2 drive and S, SV, SL, PRO-4X and Platinum Reserve trim levels – covering about 85 percent of the total light pickup marketplace,” said Diaz. “And each and every one of them will be covered by the new 5-year/100,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty – the best truck warranty in America.”

Rear Door Alert technology to become standard on all four-door Nissan nameplates

Nissan Rear Door Alert honks to remind drivers to check the back seat
  • Nissan’s Rear Door Alert (RDA)1 is the industry’s first system that uses the horn, in addition to door sensors and a message display on the center instrument panel, to remind drivers to check the back seat after the vehicle is parked
  • For model year 2019, Nissan will add RDA as standard equipment to eight additional nameplates, including the best-selling Rogue and the all-new Altima
  • By model year 2022, Nissan plans to have RDA standard on all four-door trucks, sedans and SUV nameplates
  • The recently patented technology was launched as standard equipment on the family-friendly Pathfinder SUV last year

Nissan is making Rear Door Alert technology standard on more models to remind customers to check the back seat and help reduce potential heatstroke incidents.

Originally developed by two mothers who are also engineers, Rear Door Alert reminds owners to check the rear seat upon exiting their vehicle by using a series of distinctive honks as the driver walks away from the vehicle. Nissan is the first automaker to use a honking horn as an alert for this type of feature.

“I’m proud to see Nissan lead the way by making Rear Door Alert standard on more models,” said Marlene Mendoza, a mechanical engineer who helped create the technology. “What started as a chat with my colleague, Elsa Foley, is now innovative technology being adopted in more Nissan models. It is a testament to Nissan’s culture.”

After Mendoza and Foley presented the idea, the project moved into full development at Nissan Technical Center North America (NTCNA) in Farmington Hills, Michigan.

“The idea was inspired when I accidentally left a pan of lasagna in the back seat of my car overnight,” added Mendoza, a mother of three, who was pregnant when the idea struck. “The worst thing was the car smelled for days, but it made me ask myself, ‘What if I left something far more important back there?'”

The temperature inside of a vehicle can increase to dangerous levels quickly, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Even with moderate outside temperatures in the mid-60s, a vehicle’s interior can quickly heat up to more than 110 degrees Fahrenheit.

How Rear Door Alert works

RDA, which currently is standard equipment on the 2018 Nissan Pathfinder, monitors when the rear door is opened and closed before and after the vehicle is in motion. The system responds with a series of notifications if a rear door was used prior to a trip, but was not re-opened after the trip. Once the vehicle is in park and the ignition is turned off, the system will first display a notification in the instrument panel and progresses to subtle, distinctive chirps of the horn.

The RDA system is easy to configure and can be temporarily, or permanently, turned off through a menu in the cluster display.

“If you open a rear door and put something in the rear seat, Rear Door Alert will help you remember when you get to your destination that you may have forgotten it,” Mendoza said. “By drawing attention back to the vehicle while the driver is walking away, the honking alerts you to recheck the back seat in addition to visual or interior audible alerts.”

Mendoza (listed as Henry on the patent) and Foley are the inventors on U.S. Patent No. 9,734,695 for the “activity monitoring apparatus,” otherwise known as Rear Door Alert. This is the first patent granted to either Mendoza or Foley.
