12TH ANNUAL HILTON HEAD ISLAND MOTORING FESTIVAL & CONCOURS D’ELEGANCE ANNOUNCES CONCOURS D’ELEGANCE CLASSES

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival & Concours d’Elegance, one of the nation’s premier automotive events, announces the featured classes for the 2013 Concours d’Elegance to be held Sunday, November 3. This year, 150 cars and 25 motorcycles will compete for honors, including automobiles in special classes that are sure to delight film enthusiasts, historians and racing fans. The Concours will celebrate milestones such as the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911 and the 60th anniversary of the Chevrolet Corvette, as well as the debut of Warner Bros.’ “The Great Gatsby.”

Annual signature classes include Brass Era Cars, Classics, Production 1916-1948/Modern, English/International Sports Cars and Micro Cars, a perennial Hilton Head Island Concours favorite. Unique this year is the special Gatsby class of 1920s-era Classics, complete with period costumes and memorabilia. True purists will enjoy the two Concours’ Preservation classes, featuring pre 1949 and 1949 – 1973 automobiles. Cars accepted for these classes are original, non-restored vehicles from around the country, whose preserved beauty showcases the true evolution of the automobile.

The Hilton Head event was the first major Concours to feature motorcycles and two-wheel enthusiasts will again discover a collection of classics and rare machines. This year’s Concours will include a special class of Preservation Motorcycles in addition to Motorcycles through 1945 and Motorcycles 1946 through 1973.

As one of only a few automotive events to feature vintage and historic auto racing, competition-level cars are another popular element of the Concours. For 2013, select participants in the Hutchinson Island Savannah Speed Classic, October 25 – 27, will make the short trip to Port Royal Golf Club and join an eclectic class of 1973 and earlier race cars.

“Each year we continue to raise the bar for the quality and diversity of machines that are accepted for the Concours,” said Merry Harlacher, Selection Committee Chairman. “This year, we’ve also added a world-class backdrop for these exceptional automobiles – the 18th green of the award-winning ocean-side Port Royal Club. We’re looking forward to an unrivaled combination of memorable automobiles and surroundings.”
