International auctioneers Coys have lined up a superb selection of over 60 classic cars worth €8 million for their Techno-Classica auction in Essen, Germany, on Saturday 18th April.

The auction, held at the largest classic car show in Europe and therefore the world, features vehicles such as a 1971 Maserati Ghibli 4.9SS Spyder (estimated at €250,000 to €300,000), a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTE (€285,000 to €350,000) and a 1960 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II Drophead Coupe by H.J. Mulliner (€240,000 to €300,000).

Chris Routledge, Managing Partner of Coys, said: “The auction at Techno-Classica Essen is one of the most well established classic car sales in the world and headlines Coys position as the leading international auction brand in Germany.

“This year we are offering a fabulous selection of historic cars, ranging from a Porsche 959 Coupe, very much the new darling for Porsche collectors and very rare too, through to a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing, one of the greatest German cars of all times.”

The 1988 959 Coupe truly is a collector’s item and will be a highlight in any important Porsche collection. This model was – and still is – a milestone in the truest sense of the marque’s history. Out of a limited edition of just 250 cars, it is offered in excellent condition in all respects.

The 1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing is in superb condition after benefitting from factory servicing and restoration work with a thorough mechanical check at the Mercedes-Benz Classic Centre in Stuttgart in 2011. This could be regarded as one of finest examples available for sale nowadays, making it a special opportunity and a must have for any serious fine car collection. It is estimated at €900,000 to €1,200,000.

Routledge added: “Pre-war cars are a market that has been remarkably active recently and are also well represented at the auction with marques such as Rolls Royce through iconic models such as the BMW 328 Roadster.”

The 328 Roadster on offer was discovered as a project in Germany approximately a decade ago and was brought over to the UK for restoration, utilising the specialist services of TT Workshop in London and Bristol Engineering in Wiltshire. It is estimated at €480,000 to €600,000.

Other important lots include a 1980 BMW M1 (estimated at €275,000 to €350,000), a 1977 Ferrari 308 GTB (€125,000 to €160,000), a 1971 Ferrari 365GT 2+2 (€140,000 to €180,000), a 1963 Maserati Sebring (€120,000 to €150,000) and a 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster (€50,000 to €60,000).
