FORD 64-PLATE VEHICLE SALES EXCEED 100,000

832b5317-f01b-4e25-94c4-0ca25f384988BRENTWOOD, Essex, 6 November, 2014 – UK market leader Ford has recorded 101,037 64-plate registrations during September and October.  This is the highest number of Ford sales over a two-month period since March/April 2008.

According to the official figures for October from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT):

  • Ford is market leader for cars, commercial vehicles and total vehicle sales
  • Fiesta and Focus are number one and two in October and year to date
  • Transit nameplate sales would place the brand third in UK total vehicle sales
  • Ford’s total vehicle sales lead over its nearest rival now exceeds 100,000

Mark Ovenden, Ford of Britain chairman and managing director, said: “In a buoyant UK market, Ford beat the total vehicle sales growth in October, to maintain our strong sales momentum.

“Fiesta and Focus continue to lead the UK market while the success of our extended Ford CV family can be measured by the fact that total Transit nameplate sales exceed those of any car – apart from Fiesta and Focus.  These sales results are founded on a continuous stream of new models and innovative technology delivered through our dealer partners, who make up the strongest network in the UK.”

The official figures released by the SMMT today show that total car sales in October were up 14.2 per cent at 179,714, compared with October 2013. Ford’s October car sales were 24,221, up from 21,325 in October 2013.  For the year to date (end October) total UK car sales were 2,137,910, up 9.5 per cent compared with the same period in 2013, while Ford car sales for this period were 286,975, up from 270,342.

Ford Fiesta’s total registrations of 116,087 for the year to date make it the UK best seller by a significant margin.  This sales total would place it seventh in the list of top-selling car manufacturers, meaning that Fiesta on its own outsells the car ranges of all but five of Ford’s rival car makers.

Ford’s broad customer appeal across its car range is demonstrated by Fiesta,

B-MAX, Focus, C-MAX, Kuga and Galaxy all being placed in the top three in their respective market segments.

UK commercial vehicle (CV) sales in October were up 25.4 per cent at 35,495, compared with October 2013.  Ford CV sales in October were up 30.4 per cent at 7,527, compared with October 2013.  For the year to date total UK CV sales were up 13.6 per cent at 309,705, compared with the same period in 2013.  Total sales of Ford CVs for the year to date were up 18.8 per cent at 72,905, compared with 2013.

The full availability of Ford’s extended CV family helped deliver Ford light commercial sales and share increases in October (1,946 and 23.9 per cent versus 479 and 6.6 per cent in October 2013) and for the year to date (14,589 and 17.9 per cent versus 8,594 and 10.8 per cent for the same period in 2013).  In the new Ford light commercial range, the Ford Transit Courier has quickly taken leadership in its segment, joining the Ford Fiesta Van as another LCV segment leader for Ford.
