The Jaguar XJ delivers the quintessence of British luxury, combining supercharged performance and cutting-edge construction technology with a nearly bespoke-level of interior craftsmanship.

The brand's innovative aluminum-intensive construction, combined with advanced standard Adaptive Dynamics suspension, endows the Jaguar XJ with an agile, distinctly sporty driving character that is rare in the segment.

The 2015 XJ range offers two wheelbase lengths, three supercharged engines, and Jaguar Instinctive All Wheel Drive. The All Wheel Drive system is teamed exclusively with the 340hp 3-liter supercharged V6 engine. An active torque-management system, Instinctive All Wheel Drive offers a performance-oriented rear-drive bias and can shift power to the front wheels to either pre-empt or counter wheel slip
3. The range-topping XJR, available in both wheelbase lengths, exclusively features a 550hp supercharged V8.

Coupled to the 8-speed ZF automatic transmission, the supercharged V6 delivers an outstanding combination of performance and fuel efficiency in its class. All XJ engines feature Intelligent Stop/Start system for improved fuel economy, which ranges up to 27 EPA-estimated highway mpg
2. In between the supercharged 3-liter V6 and 550hp XJR supercharged V8, the 2015 Jaguar XJ line offers a 470hp supercharged 5-liter V8.

The XJ model line for 2015 includes standard and long-wheelbase versions, the latter offering 44.1-inches of rear seat legroom, 5.1-inches more than in the standard-wheelbase model. The XJ is fitted with the most luxurious interior offered in a Jaguar car, blending a wide choice of leather and wood finishes with intuitive infotainment technology.

Instinctive All Wheel Drive System

The Jaguar Instinctive All Wheel Drive system has proven popular in the XJ model. The system employs an active power transfer control technology that adds the benefit of enhanced all-season traction while retaining the sporty agility and steering feel of the rear-wheel drive version. Instinctive All Wheel Drive is exclusively paired with the supercharged 3-liter V6 engine
3.

An active electronically controlled system, Instinctive All Wheel Drive is designed to constantly monitor grip levels, steering and throttle inputs. Using special control algorithms, the system can proactively predict rear-tire slip. It can transfer up to 50 percent of the torque to the front wheels when needed, to pre-empt potential rear-wheel slip or respond to slippery conditions. A transfer case connected to the rear of the 8-speed automatic transmission houses a multi-plate wet clutch, which controls power transfer via a driveshaft to the front differential. The Transfer Case Control Module (TCCM) is the electronic control unit that monitors grip levels and driver inputs, and then signals the transfer clutch to apportion the torque appropriately.

In dry-road conditions, the AWD system normally sends most torque to the rear wheels to preserve the agile driving feel and response of a rear-wheel drive XJ. When accelerating from a stop, the system applies "pre-load" torque to the front wheels to help optimize traction. Once underway, if no slip of the rear wheels is detected, the AWD seamlessly switches to its rear-biased configuration.

Selecting "Winter Mode" using the Jaguar Drive Control optimizes vehicle systems for slippery conditions. Winter mode also preloads more torque to the front wheels at start-up and defaults to a 30:70 torque share between front and rear to maximize traction on slippery surfaces
3.

Control is further bolstered by the full integration of the AWD control with Dynamic Stability Control and ABS, which can apply braking to individual wheels as a second measure against wheel slip and also apportion torque side-to-side
3.

Supercharged V6 and 8-Speed Automatic Transmission

The supercharged V6 combines a broad powerband with high efficiency, along with the refined performance expected from a Jaguar engine. All 2015 XJ engines are mated to a Jaguar-tuned ZF 8-speed automatic transmission, which offers a broad spread of ratios for an optimally balanced combination of performance and efficiency and allows manual shifting with steering wheel paddles.

Jaguar engineered its DOHC 3-liter supercharged V6 from the all-aluminum architecture of the brand's admired 5-liter supercharged V8. Counter-rotating front and rear balancer weights help the supercharged 90-degree V6 match the smoothness and refinement of the V8 on which it is based. The Intelligent Stop/Start system uses a twin solenoid starter, enabling the system to restart the engine in less time than it takes for the driver's foot to move from the brake pedal to the accelerator.

The V6 engine produces 340hp at 6,500 rpm. More telling about the powerplant's flexibility in everyday driving is the broad torque curve, with the peak of 332 lb.-ft. available from 3,500-5,000 rpm. The XJ 3-liter can accelerate the rear wheel drive standard-wheelbase model from zero to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds
5.

Like the Jaguar supercharged V8, the supercharged V6 combines high compression, direct fuel injection, dual independent variable cam timing (DIVCT) and an engine-driven supercharger to deliver performance of a larger-displacement engine. A Roots-type twin vortex supercharger is mounted in the engine's "V," and a water-cooled intercooler reduces the temperature of the intake air to optimize power and efficiency.
Meridian Premium Audio Systems

The 2015 Jaguar XJ models offer a choice between three premium audio systems from Meridian™, the renowned British maker of high-end home audio equipment and speakers. Meridian technology emphasizes ultra-low distortion, natural detail and realism. For example, a total harmonic distortion (THD) rating of less than 1 percent is considered to be high fidelity and inaudible to the human ear; the 2014 Jaguar XJ Meridian systems have a THD of just 0.2 percent.

That is one reason, along with Meridian proprietary digital signal processing, that the standard 380W system in the XJ 3.0 and XJL Portfolio models produces output on par with some 600W systems. The 825W system that is standard in V8 models and optional in others, produces the equivalent output of a 1,200W system.

The Meridian 380W premium sound system features an AM/FM receiver, a single-slot CD/DVD player, MP3 disc compatibility, Radio Data system, HD Radio™and a SiriusXM®Satellite Radioreceiver (with three-month complimentary service). In addition, the Media Hub provides flexible connectivity through a USB port, Bluetooth® v2.0 audio streaming and an auxiliary input jack4. Gracenote provides artist and track recognition.

Tuned by Meridian™ for the Jaguar XJ interior, the 380W audio system uses 14 speakers (including two subwoofers), separate digital amplifier and Audyssey MultEQ sound equalization technology. The 825W version uses a 15-channel, 20-speaker surround sound system and adds the Meridian Trifield surround mode. This unique mode creates an all-enveloping sound field that places each occupant in the center of the sound field. Cabin Correction and Dynamic Volume Control maintain consistent volume level by monitoring extraneous noise levels and continually minimizing resonances.

For the ultimate in lifelike mobile audio, the 1,300W Meridian™ Reference Audio system with a total of 26 speakers strategically placed around the cabin offers an uncompromised, personal and consistent musical experience for every passenger. Three speakers (two 80mm speakers and one 25mm tweeter) located in the rear of each of the front seats provides rear seat passengers with a personal soundstage experience. A unique feature of the top Meridian™ system is Conversation Assist, which uses microphones located above each seating position to channel passengers' voices through the audio system speakers, mixing music and speech volume accordingly, for clearer conversation.

Navigation

The standard XJ navigation system provides a number of convenience-adding features. The Dynamic Zoom feature automatically magnifies the image when the car is approaching an intersection or highway interchange3,4. The Visual Lane Guidance function provides additional lane selection details at intersections, and the Road Sign Board feature displays overhead sign information in the split-screen view3,4.

The "My POI" feature includes easy access to the Points of Interest function from the main menu screen and the ability to download, import and edit POI lists from a personal computer into the navigation system via USB drive.

Bold, Confident Exterior; Architectural Interior Design

The Jaguar design language is exemplified on the XJ by a "face" defined by a bold mesh grille and slim standard Xenon headlights. The strong, muscular lower half of the car is contrasted with the roofline's slender, graceful character. The wrap-around rear window gives the impression of an exotic "floating" roof. A panoramic glass roof, standard on all XJ models, enhances the sense of light and space in the cabin.

The clean, elegant form of the instrument panel sitting low across the vehicle dominates the cabin design. Bold architectural wood sweeps forward from the rear doors through the front doors, meeting at the upper dashboard center. An analog clock inspired by luxury wristwatches is located in the center of the lower dashboard. When open, the panoramic glass roof mechanism slides the front glass panel upward and outward, preserving headroom. The roof's dark tint and reflective coating help limit heat gain, and twin power blinds provide another level of privacy and sun screening.

The Jaguar XJ employs interior electronics in luxuriously functional ways. The illuminated stop/start button pulsates like a heartbeat until pressed, when, as part of the "handshake" sequence, the JaguarDrive Selector™ rises from the center console. When the engine is stopped, the JaguarDrive Selector retracts automatically.

A 12.3-inch high-definition screen displays "virtual gauges" to provide the functions of traditional instrument dials. When required, the tachometer fades to temporarily display a required warning message or menu -- for example, if fuel is running low, or to operate the Interactive Voice™ control
4. When the driver selects Dynamic mode, the dials change to a red hue and feature a gear position indicator that glows red as the engine speed rises.

An 8-inch touch-screen display in the center console provides easy access to many of the functions, including climate control, audio, communications and standard navigation. The Jaguar Interactive Voice™ control system provides easy control of the standard Bluetooth®, navigation or audio systems
4.

Aluminum Construction for Performance, Agility and Efficiency

The XJ is based on a lightweight aluminum vehicle architecture. Primarily aluminum, but also utilizing magnesium and composite alloys, it yields a significantly lighter and stiffer body structure than one built from steel. The construction technique employs the same aerospace-based riveting and bonding processes also deployed for the Jaguar F-TYPE sports car and XK grand touring models.

The XJ sedan light but stiff structure provides the foundation for both the car's sporting character and its supple, refined ride. The double-wishbone front suspension features weight-saving forged aluminum components and uses coil springs. The front subframe is directly mounted to the body for enhanced steering response and handling precision. The subframe-mounted, multi-link rear suspension uses lightweight cast aluminum links and self-leveling air springs.

The 2015 XJ models are fitted with 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels in seven designs, some with the additional option of a polished finish. The rear wheels are wider than the front wheels and use lower-profile tires, the resulting "staggered" array enhancing the vehicle's grip and agility.
Advanced Chassis Dynamics

The standard Adaptive Dynamics active damping system automatically tailors damper settings to suit both road conditions and the way the car is being driven
3.  The driver tailors the system's responses using the JaguarDrive control™, which offers three modes: Normal, for comfortable, leisurely driving; Dynamic, for a more sporting and responsive character; and Winter, for greater capability in low-grip conditions. Each mode changes the characteristics of engine response, transmission shifts, Adaptive Dynamics and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) intervention (and Active Differential Control on XJ Supercharged and XJR models). In Dynamic mode, gearshift points are raised, and the suspension damping is set firmer3.

Selecting Winter Mode using the Jaguar Drive control optimizes vehicle systems for slippery conditions: The transmission selects second gear to help provide greater traction from a standstill and also lowers engine rpm and shift points. On AWD models, Winter Mode also preloads more torque to the front wheels at start-up and defaults to a 30:70 torque share between front and rear to enhance traction on slippery surfaces
3.

The 2015 Jaguar XJ Supercharged and XJR models also employ Active Differential Control in the rear axle, which helps to improve acceleration and also enhances cornering ability. The clutch-type rear differential transmits torque to the wheel with the most traction. This proactive system differs fundamentally from conventional traction control, which uses the brakes reactively to counteract slip
3.

XJR Performance Flagship

Introduced for 2014, the XJR replaced the XJ Supersport models as the flagship model, offering greater performance in both standard and long-wheelbase versions. Functional aerodynamic improvements are provided by a new front air splitter, aerodynamic rocker sills, an additional rear spoiler, and hood vents.

The XJR models' 5-liter supercharged V8 engine delivers 550hp and 502 lb/ft of torque, enabling the XJR capable to sprint from zero to 60mph in 4.4 seconds (0-100km/h in 4.6 seconds) and reach an electronically limited top track speed of 174mph (280km/h)
5.

The Electronic Active Differential and Dynamic Stability Control systems have been calibrated to match the handling characteristics of the XJR. Working in parallel with the differential, the 'Trac DSC' setting of the Dynamic Stability Control system offers the enthusiast driver more opportunity to explore the outer edges of the handling envelope in a track setting
3. The steering hydraulics and calibration have also been engineered to enhance steering feel, response and feedback under all driving conditions.

By monitoring acceleration, braking, cornering forces, throttle application, brake pedal activity, road load and kick-down request, the 8-speed automatic transmission can detect a more enthusiastic driving style. When it does, it will automatically make the gearshifts more aggressively and move the upshift point to a higher RPM. Steering wheel-mounted gearshift paddles allow manual gear selection.

A Corner Recognition function senses when the XJ is negotiating a curve, and the transmission will hold the correct gear for the exit. The transmission will also recognize when the car is performing a series of overtaking maneuvers requiring rapid changes in throttle position and, rather than upshift, will remain in a lower gear ready for the next demand for acceleration. The suspension system has been extensively tuned on both road and track, using the legendary Nürburgring circuit in Germany, the high-speed Rockingham circuit in England and the winding roads of England and Wales. Jaguar Adaptive Dynamics actively controls vertical body movement, roll, and pitch rates through the use of continuously variable dampers
3.

Lightweight, forged 20-inch alloy wheels use 265/35-20 front tires and 295/30-20 rear tires specifically developed for Jaguar in conjunction with Pirelli. The 15-inch (380mm) front and 14.8-inch (376mm) rear discs of the Jaguar High Performance Braking System are internally ventilated.

Customers can choose between Polaris White, Ebony, Ultimate Black, Stratus Grey, Lunar Grey, Rhodium Silver, Dark Sapphire, Caviar, British Racing Green and Italian Racing Red exterior colors for the XJR. The five-spoke, lightweight forged alloy wheels come in either Sparkle silver or Technical grey finishes. The assertive appearance of the XJR is further enhanced with a gloss black front grille and lower intake mesh, with chrome surrounds.

The XJR cabin is equipped with Sport Seats trimmed in Jet Black leather available with an exclusive choice of Ivory, London Tan or Red Zone inserts on the seat facings or simply Red or London Tan contrast stitching. The seats are embossed with the 'R' logo. Jet Black suede cloth headlining is standard. Piano Black veneer is standard on the model, with Carbon Fiber available as an option.

Jaguar Luxury

A full secondary bulkhead, laminated windshield and door glass, optimized body structure and exemplary aerodynamics endow the Jaguar XJ with a tranquil cabin. Luxurious leather adorns the main interior surfaces. Twin-needle stitching highlights seams on the seats, and each door panel integrates a storage compartment inspired by premium, hand-stitched designer briefcases.

A wide range of color and trim selections, accented by elegant switchgear and soft phosphor blue lighting, offers expansive interior personalization. Eleven different woods are available, depending on the model, with carbon fiber and piano black finishes among the choices.

The 2015 XJ 3.0 is equipped with a dual-zone automatic climate control system, while all other models have a four-zone system with separate controls and ventilation outlets for the left and right rear seat passengers. The XJ 3.0 features 8-way power-adjustable heated front seats plus 4-way power lumbar adjustments, and rear seats are heated as well. Optional for the XJ but standard for all other variants, are 14-way power heated and cooled active-ventilated front seats with heated and cooled active-ventilated rear seats.

Standard amenities on all XJ models include soft-close doors; a heated steering wheel; power trunk lid with adjustable opening height; xenon HID headlights; Blind Spot Monitor
3; rear view camera3; auto dimming side mirrors with heat and power-folding and approach illumination; a power-adjustable steering column; Jaguar Smart Key system™ with keyless entry and start and rain-sensing windshield wipers,.

The long-wheelbase model raises the luxury ante with 14-way power front seats, four-zone automatic climate control, heated and active-ventilated front and rear seats and additional soft-grain leather surfaces.

Driver Assistance Features

The comprehensive set of active technologies of the 2015 Jaguar XJ include Anti-lock Braking (ABS), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Understeer Control, Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Electronic Traction Control (ETC) and Engine Drag Torque Control
3. On models equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), the Advanced Emergency Brake Assist uses the ACC radar to help calculate distance from and closing speed to the vehicle traveling ahead. The system is designed to pre-charge brake-line pressure to help reduce impact speed if a collision is predicted, and provide an audible warning to the driver3. Two-stage driver and front passenger airbags and front side and curtain side airbags6 are complemented by anti-whiplash front seat structures.

The standard radar-based blind-spot monitoring system alerts the XJ driver to vehicles in close proximity on either side3. Standard front and rear parking sensors, with visual indicators shown through the touch-screen, along with a standard backup camera, aid visibility when parking
3. The standard Xenon headlamps can be augmented with the Visibility Package, which includes a system that switches the high beams on and off automatically in response to oncoming traffic and prevailing lighting conditions3. This option also includes adaptive lighting, which swivels the headlamps to follow the road when cornering3.
