In 1948, The first Chevrolet to pace the Indy 500 was a 1948 a Chevrolet Fleetmaster Six-Series Convertible, driven by Wilbur Shaw and would start the long line of Chevrolet Pace Cars. below Wilbur Shaw behind the wheel of the first Chevrolet Pace Car. Wilbur Shaw was a noted American racing driver and president of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway from 1945 until his death in 1954 (airplane crash)
