2001 Hummer H1 Wagon

New for 2001

  • Instrument panel gauges have been redesigned and clustered in a new arrangement. The redesigned analog gauges give a freshened appearance and allow the relocation of the CTIS switches and gauges for better accessibility and visibility.

  • New horizontal exterior mirrors provide more mirror surface for improved visibility to the sides and the rear. Both the left and right mirrors contain an integrated convex mirror piece. The mirrors are now heated to defrost snow and ice. The outside mirrors' heating devise is activated when the optional heated windshield is engaged. The on switch for the windshield and mirrors has a timer.

  • HUMMER's highly desired optional Monsoon premium sound system is now available on open top models. It contains all the same features available in rest of the HUMMER lineup including a front sound bar. It's arguably the best audio system in an open top vehicle.

  • Inside armrests are now available for the rear seats for additional comfort. The fold up and adjust exactly the same as the current front armrests.

  • New knobs and graphics ergonomically enhance the heating and air conditioning system (HVAC) controls.

  • A new Ocean Blue metallic color replaces off-white in a variety of nine colors offered for the HUMMER line.

  • New 17-inch one-piece aluminum wheels and tires are offered as an option for the 2001 HUMMER. They come with a GSA-style tire and offer better traction and a stronger sidewall.

4-Door Wagon -- Features and Components

Axles:

Hypoid with a ratio of 2.56:1. Continuous torque rating is 1,424 lb.-ft.

Brakes:

Hydraulic-actuated, four-wheel inboard-mounted Meritor-WABCO ABS power disc brakes with translucent reservoir and level sensor.

  • Rotors - diameter: 10.5 inches (266 mm)
  • Effective area: 17.4 sq. in. (112 sq. cm.) each

Differential:

Torque is delivered to the geared hubs from ZEXEL Torsen® II torque-biasing differentials with inboard-mounted disc brakes. Because the brakes are inboard-mounted, the Hummer's 4-wheel power disc brakes provide exceptional stopping power without leaving the components vulnerable to damage when operating off-road.

  • Electrical: 12-volt 124-amp alternator
  • Fording Depth: 30 inches (76.2 cm)
  • Frame: Steel box section with 5 cross members
  • Fuel Capacity: 25 gallons (95L) + 17-gallon (64L) reserve
  • Geared Hubs: Gear Ratio - 1.92:1
  • Gear Ratios: Low - 2.72:1, High - 1:1
  • Maximum Speed: 83 mph (134 kph)

Steering:
Power-assisted with a variable ratio of 13/16:1. Power-assisted variable-ratio steering provides for a very responsive steering system. The power steering pump provides hydraulic oil pressure to operate the brake system.

Suspension:
The Hummer features a four-wheel, long travel double-A-arm coil spring suspension with large-diameter hydraulic shock absorbers inside the coils for added protection in harsh environments. The front suspension incorporates a large stabilizer bar for even better handling and reducing sway in turns. Together with the wheel and tire assembly, the Hummer's suspension system provides a comfortable ride on even the roughest terrain.

Tires

37 x 12.50R-16.5 LT load range "D" Goodyear Wrangler MT radial with optional beadlock or runflat.

Transfer Case:

New Venture Gear Model 242. The transfer case enables you to customize the drivetrain configuration to match virtually any terrain. It features two gear ranges, high and low, with two differential conditions:

High: When operating in high range, the internal differential allows the front and rear tires to rotate independently for smooth cornering on hard surfaces.

High lock and low lock: The locked positions lock out the internal differential, transmitting torque equally to the front and rear axles. High lock is used primarily on slippery surfaces such as snow-covered roads or muddy trails, when extra traction is needed. Low lock provides an added gear reduction for increased torque. It is used under the most severe terrain conditions, when both traction and maximum torque are required.

Transmission:

General Motors 4L80-E 4-speed automatic with a maximum torque rating of 430 lb.-ft. This is widely regarded as the best and most durable four-speed transmission ever designed. The automatic transmission not only makes the Hummer easy to drive, but it also allows smooth transition of power for improved off-road mobility. Over time, it monitors your driving technique and adjusts to your driving style.
Gear Ratios: 1st - 2.48:1, 2nd - 1.48:1, 3rd - 1.00:1, 4th - 0.75:1, Reverse - 2.08:1, Torque Converter Ratio: 2.2:1

Turbo Diesel Engine

  • Type: V8, 6.5L Diesel Turbocharged, Electronically Controlled
  • Horsepower: (@ 3,400 rpm): 195 hp (145 kW)
  • Torque: (@ 1,800 rpm): 430 lb.-ft. (583 Nm)
  • Governor Type: Electronic
  • Displacement: 396 cu. in. (6.5 L)
  • Bore and Stroke: 4.06 x 3.82 in. (10.3 x 9.7 cm)
  • Compression Ratio: 20.2:1

A diesel engine delivers more power at lower engine speeds, giving the driver control in off-road environments. Since the diesel engine uses compression ignition instead of spark ignition, engine maintenance is easier. Because compression ignition requires much more internal pressure than spark ignition, diesel engines must be of heavier construction.
