London, 20 April 2018 — The British supersonic land vehicle BLOODHOUND SSC will take centre stage on the ‘Built In Britain’ feature at The Confused.com London Motor Show before it goes for its first record-breaking attempt later this year.

Current land speed record holder and former Royal Air Force pilot Andy Green will get behind the wheel of the jet-powered machine as it takes to the Hakskeen Pan desert in South Africa.

Using an ingenious combination of a jet and rocket engine attached to a land vehicle, the BLOODHOUND SSC boasts over 180 times the power of an F1 car. The vehicle will break the sound barrier with ease as it travels upwards of 1,000mph. Being one of the most sophisticated cars ever built, the machine is comprised of over 3,500 parts made uniquely for the vehicle.

The BLOODHOUND Project is one which sets out to educate young scientists and engineers across the world honing in on engineering skills and developing innovative talent in children and young adults through hands-on presentations at schools globally.

Team leader Richard Noble has been a catalyst in the success of World Land Speed Records for decades, spearheading the Thrust2 programme to the World Land Speed Record in 1983 and the current record holder, the ThrustSSC, in 1997. Noble is the British kingpin for speed; breaking the world record for fastest on-land vehicle has been Noble’s goal and bringing his passion of velocity to the show this year will be fitting on the ‘Built In Britain’ feature.

Following the successful 200mph shakedown tests at Cornwall Airport Newquay last October, the BLOODHOUND Team are set to test the car at 500 mph on the Hakskeen Pan, South Africa in October.

Accompanying many other proud British greats on the showpiece stand at this year’s show, the addition of the BLOODHOUND SSC to ‘Built In Britain’ is sure to draw in speed junkies and young innovators alike.

Alec Mumford, Chairman of The Confused.com London Motor Show, said: “We appreciate all that The BLOODHOUND Project is doing for young enthusiasts in their development and appreciation of speed. Having the BLOODHOUND SSC on the ‘Built In Britain’ feature is a tremendous feat and we hope this symbol of British capability will inspire young trailblazers in science and engineering. There couldn’t have been a better example of British excellence at this year’s show!”

Tickets are currently £18.50 and one child (under 17) goes free with a paying adult. They’re on general sale now and available to purchase at thelondonmotorshow.co.uk

ASTON MARTIN VANQUISH S RED10 FLYING ON TO ‘BUILT IN BRITAIN’

  • Unique RAF Red Arrows tribute Aston Martin Vanquish S confirmed for The Confused.com London Motor Show
  • The car, which celebrates two of the most iconic marques in British history and engineering, to line up on the ‘Built In Britain’ feature
  • Iconic V12 supercar is capable of a top speed upwards of 200mph and supports RAF Benevolent Fund

London, Thursday 5 April 2018 – A specially commissioned Aston Martin Vanquish S, which pays homage to the Royal Air Force and the Red Arrows Display Team, will take pride of place on the ‘Built In Britain’ feature at The Confused.com London Motor Show 2018.

The special-edition Aston Martin Red10 is the perfect tribute to the iconic Red Arrows, displaying the Éclat red colour seen on the Hawk jets, a Union Jack tail fin motif, ‘Smoke Trails’ on side skirts and an Ejection Seat Detonator cord. The V12 engine boasts a top speed of 201mph and can go from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds, giving the feeling of going as fast as the RAF plane.

This one-of-a-kind vehicle is personalised in part of the famous “Diamond Nine” flying formation of the Red Arrows. With attention to detail, the car features a carbon roof with a zig-zag ‘charge’ pattern mimicking the explosives set into jet cockpits fitted to shatter the canopy in case of the pilot needing to eject. The Aston Martin Red10 will be the closest connection to a Royal Air Force jet you can get at this year’s event.

Unique in its reverence to the prowess of the Royal Air Force, which this year celebrates 100 years, the Aston Martin Red 10 not only represents the role of the men and women in the RAF, but the creativity and innovation of UK engineering, design and technology. All the attributes that make it a perfect fit for the all-new ‘Built In Britain’ feature.

The car on display was offered to the public in a raffle where more than 70,000 tickets were bought and over £1.5 million was raised for the RAF Benevolent Fund.

Since its foundation in 1919, the RAF Benevolent Fund has been on hand to support the RAF Family, existing to support current and former members of the RAF, their partners and dependents. An independent charity, it provides assistance to the RAF Family, when in need. It also helps maintain and support the morale and wellbeing of those serving in the RAF in addition to protecting and preserving the RAF Memorial and Bomber Command Memorial in central London.

Alec Mumford, Chairman of The Confused.com London Motor Show, said: “Two great symbols of British prowess, engineering and design come together in this unique Aston Martin Red10 supercar. There is no better way to show our appreciation for Aston Martin and the Royal Air Force than having this stunning vehicle on our ‘Built In Britain’ feature at this year’s show.”

The car’s owner, and winner of the raffle, Humphrey Bradley said: “I was totally shocked to win such an incredible prize – absolutely gobsmacked. I am honoured to have supported a service charity and the RAF Benevolent Fund undertakes some truly incredible work supporting the RAF family. From those on RAF Stations to those veterans in care homes and everyone in between, they really are there for those that need help, every step of the way. As an ex-serviceman myself I know how important the work of charities like the Fund’s is – they make a real difference to real people and to be able to give something back at the London Motor Show is an honour.”
