UK’s CLASSIC CAR AUCTION 2 DECEMBER

  • 160 ‘everyman’ classic cars for auction at festive finale.
  • Huge variety on offer covering 72 years of motoring history.
  • Sale to take place at the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre on 2nd

Warwickshire-based auction house, Classic Car Auctions (CCA), will present 160 classic cars spanning 72 years of motoring history at its festive December Sale at the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre on Saturday 2nd December.

Bidders will be spoilt for choice with the huge variety of quality ‘everyman’ classics on offer, including 17 BMWs, 14 Fords, 12 Mercedes-Benz, 11 Jaguars, eight Volkswagens, seven Triumphs and even a Porsche tractor.

Among the highlight lots in the auction, two modern classics with motorsport heritage are expected to draw bidders from far and wide. The homologation specials that spawned the Group B rally craze of the eighties will go head to head when a restored 1984 Opel Manta 400, one of just 245 made, is offered with an estimate of £40,000 to £50,000, and a well maintained, exemplary 1991 Audi UR-Quattro RR 20V is offered at £30,000 to £35,000.

Other modern classics offering fabulous collectability include a concours-winning 1987 Volkswagen Golf GTi convertible, reading just 21,500 miles. One of just 138 examples of the limited edition ‘All White’ Series, this particular car was previously owned by Sir David Jason OBE, famous for his appearances as Del Boy in Only Fools and Horses. It was originally bought for his long-term partner, Myfanwy Talog, and will be offered at £11,000 to £14,000.

Other eighties hot-hatches in the sale include a one owner, time-warp 1986 Ford Fiesta XR2 in original condition estimated at £14,000 to £18,000, and a 1988 Peugeot 206 XR reading just 4,400 miles, estimated at £5,000 to £7,000.

Porsche fans will have the choice of 16 quality examples available, among them two of the desirable Turbo-look specials; a 1985 911 Targa Supersport SSE and a 1989 991 Carrera Supersport SSE, both sporting the factory fitted M491 body kit, and estimated at £68,000 to £74,000 and £60,000 to £70,000 respectively.

Porsche fans looking to enter the growing market of front-engined models have the chance to pick up a 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo in the auction, estimated at £20,000 to £25,000. Or for those looking for a more unusual investment, there is even a 1962 Porsche tractor on offer with an estimate of £12,000 to £15,000.

Traditional British classics also shine bright in the auction catalogue, with an iconic 1959 Austin Healey 3000 MK1 BT7 2+2 which has been lavished with care and attention during a 22-year ownership, guided at £30,000 to £35,000.

A partly restored 1969 Jaguar E Type 2+2 Series 2 to be offered at £38,000 to £42,000 and a lovely example of a pull handle, 3-bearing crank 1963 MG MGB to be offered with an estimate of £12,000 to £15,000, complete the British line-up.

For fans of one of the most iconic British classics, the Mini, there’s plenty to get excited about with a 1965 Mini Cooper S celebrating the Italian Job complete with original artefacts from the famous film and a set of fake gold bars in the boot. The car has also been used twice by Chris Evans’ Famous Five trips for Children in Need. Joining the red Cooper S is a 1960 Morris Mini used by Marks & Spencer in a television advertisement featuring Twiggy, Erin O’Connor, Laura Bailey and Noemie Lenoir.

“The December Sale is the last of the year and we’ve put together a fantastic catalogue to round off 2017 with a really special auction,” comments Gary Dunne, auction manager, CCA.

“As always we’ve selected cars to suit a range of tastes and budgets, whether you’re new to classic car ownership or an experienced collector, and we have some real show-stoppers up for grabs. We like to think we’ll help a few people out with their Christmas gift shopping too!”

A dedicated viewing afternoon will take place on Friday 1st December from 12 noon to 6pm, prior to the auction which takes place on Saturday 2nd December from 11am.

Mulled wine and mince pies will be available at the venue, with Christmas attire encouraged!
