ONE-OF-A-KIND LAFERRARI RAISES $7 MILLION TO BENEFIT CENTRAL ITALY
Daytona Beach, FL (4 December 2016) – Last night, a prized LaFerrari was sold at auction for $7 Million to benefit the reconstruction of Central Italy in the aftermath of the devastating earthquakes of 2016. The auction was held in conjunction with RM Sotheby’s and in collaboration with the National Italian American Foundation’s Earthquake Relief Fund. The price achieved represents a record for the most valuable 21stCentury automobile ever sold at auction.
All proceeds from the auction will go toward the reconstruction efforts in the areas affected by the earthquake. RM Sotheby’s has graciously donated their expertise to raise the highest amount possible. The decision to donate a LaFerrari from the company’s own collection for this cause was announced on August 31st 2016 on the occasion of the bilateral talks between the Italian and German governments that took place at the Ferrari factory in Maranello, Italy.
The LaFerrari boasts a unique livery with a distinctly Italian theme: a red exterior with a white dream line on the hood and rear windshield. A small Italian flag on the hood serves as a reminder that this is a gift by Ferrari to its home country. The car will also feature a commemorative plaque.
World’s largest collector car auction house partners with Ferrari to host exclusive auction of a unique LaFerrari
Built to benefit earthquake victims in Central Italy, a LaFerrari Coupé from the company’s own collection will be auctioned December 3 during the Ferrari Finali Mondiali weekend at the Daytona International Speedway, Florida
BLENHEIM, Ontario (November 30, 2016) – Fresh on the heels of its record-breaking Milan sale, RM Sotheby’s is thrilled to announce that it will partner with Ferrari this coming weekend (December 3) for the charity auction of a unique LaFerrari. The exclusive sale will take place during the Ferrari Finali Mondiali weekend at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida.
One of the Prancing Horse’s most coveted creations, original production of the hybrid 949hp LaFerrari hypercar was limited to 499 coupés. In August, Ferrari Chairman and CEO, Sergio Marchionne, announced the leading Italian automaker would offer one additional example to be auctioned for charity. The car on offer has been created as a gift from Ferrari to its home country of Italy, with proceeds from its sale benefitting the reconstruction of Central Italy in the aftermath of the devastating earthquakes of 2016. It boasts a one-of-a-kind livery and interior, designed as a tribute to Italy, with a special plaque to commemorate the occasion.
With the sale presenting an unexpected opportunity for collectors to acquire a LaFerrari coupé from new, the December 3 auction is generating plenty of excitement and widespread interest from around the world.
“It is an honor for RM Sotheby’s to be entrusted with the sale of this important car and to help raise significant funds for a desperate cause,” says Rob Myers, CEO and Chairman of RM Sotheby’s. “The earthquakes which have struck Central Italy this year devastated the lives of thousands of people, and the money raised by the sale of this LaFerrari could not be put to a better use. The auction will be an historic event, and the generosity of Ferrari SpA will change lives in the areas most affected by the natural disaster.”
In addition to RM Sotheby’s and Ferrari working together on the special charity sale, the auction will be held in collaboration with the National Italian American Foundation’s Earthquake Relief Fund. To accommodate widespread interest in this very special charity lot, RM Sotheby’s is offering a variety of remote bidding options, including telephone and absentee bidding, for those unable to attend the event in person.
RM Sotheby’s is the market leader when it comes to the sale of Ferraris at auction, having successfully sold more important examples than any other auction house. The company, which has worked with Ferrari on numerous occasions in the past, including on the 2007 – 2009 record-setting auctions at the Ferrari factory in Maranello, currently holds four of the top 10 records for the most valuable Ferraris sold at auction, twice as many as any other auction house.
