The star car of the Classic Race Aarhus Auction, a beautiful recreation of the iconic Mercedes Benz 300SLR, was sold for €326,250.

Heading outside the UK for its international debut at the Classic Race Aarhus in Denmark this weekend, 28thand 29th May, Silverstone Auctions achieved total sales of more than €2million.

The two-day auction, hosted by Silverstone Auctions and Lauritz.com, took place in the stunning setting of the Mindeparken in view of the Royal Palace and featured nearly 100 best of breed cars from vendors in Europe and the UK.

The star car of the sale, a beautiful recreation of the iconic Mercedes Benz 300SLR, was sold to rapturous applause for €326,250. One of just five examples, this 2010 model was hand-built to the exact dimensions of the original, utilising the very highest quality components throughout.

With plenty of pre-sale interest from Danish visitors at the auction, a 1964 Mercedes 600, formally owned by travel tycoon and one of the wealthiest men in Denmark, Simon Spies, sold for €140,630, more than €20,000 over its lower estimate.

Collectors seeking a special low mileage classic were spoilt for choice, with a fantastic selection on offer. A remarkable, time-warp 1974 Volkswagen Beetle barn find with just 90 km from new sold for €38,250 while a 1991 BMW 850i with just one owner and an indicated mileage of 1,759 km sold for €87,750, a believed new world record price. Ferrari fans were clearly impressed by a 2003 Ferrari 456M with just 11,900km from new and the desirable manual gearbox, which sold for a fantastic €90,000, more than €25,000 over its lower estimate.

Speaking immediately after its first international sale, Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions, said, “We’ve had a fabulous weekend here at the Classic Race Aarhus and it’s been a privilege to showcase Silverstone Auctions to a brand new audience. More unusual cars caught the eyes of buyers in the Danish sunshine.  Of royal provenance, a 1993 Mercedes-Benz 500GE, which was purchased new by ex-King Constantine of Greece, who is also a Prince of Denmark by birth sold for €25,310.

BMW M car enthusiasts fought hard over a pair of special examples with a recommissioned 1986 BMW E28 M5 selling for €49,500. A definite contender for future classic status, a 2005 BMW M3 (E46) CS sold for €30,150.

“We now return to the UK for three days of special sales at the Silverstone Classic on 28th to 31st July. Entries are now being invited into these sales so those looking to sell a classic car with our support and expertise should get in touch soon,” concluded Nick.

93 CARS ON OFFER AT SILVERSTONE AUCTIONS’ INTERNATIONAL DEBUT AT THE CLASSIC RACE AARHUS

Almost 100 classic cars will be going under the hammer in Silverstone Auctions’ debut international sale at the Classic Race Aarhus taking place this weekend, Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th May, in Denmark.

Hosted by Silverstone Auctions and Lauritz.com, Scandinavia’s largest online auctioneer, The Classic Race Aarhus Auction is set to be one of the biggest classic car auctions in Europe.

Headlining the sale is a very special recreation of the iconic Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR. One of just five examples, this 2010 model was hand-built to the exact dimensions of the original, utilising the very highest quality components throughout. It is estimated at between €320,000 and €360,000.

Among the other headline lots is a highly collectible, left-hand drive 1982 Ferrari 512 BBi. The car is in outstanding condition and barely driven, with just 4,181 miles from new, and will be offered at an estimate of between €350,000 and €400,000.

Speaking ahead of its first international sale, Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions, commented, “We’re delighted to be hosting an auction at this prestigious classic car and motorsport event. We have a fantastic and varied catalogue specialising in left-hand drive classics which we are very excited to offer to our existing customers as well as a new worldwide audience.”

Perfect for the occasion, a 1931 REO Royale Sport Victoria Coupé, used and driven by King Christian X of Denmark when staying at Marselisborg Palace in Aarhus, the location for this very auction, will be offered at an estimate of €80,000 to €90,000. Also of royal provenance, a 1993 Mercedes-Benz 500GE, which was purchased new by ex-King Constantine of Greece, who is also a Prince of Denmark by birth. Used by the family at their ski chalet in Switzerland, the car will now be offered with an estimate of €19,000 to €23,000. From royalty to business magnates, a 1964 Mercedes 600, formally owned by Danish travel tycoon and one of the wealthiest men in Denmark, Simon Spies,is estimated at between €120,000 and €140,000.

For collectors seeking a special low mileage classic, there are some very intriguing examples available. A remarkable 1974 Volkswagen Beetle barn find with just 90 km from new will be offered with a sale estimate of €35,000 to €40,000. A 1991 BMW 850i with just one owner and an indicated mileage of 1,759 km is estimated at €80,000 to €90,000. Also, a beautiful, left-hand drive 1990 Ferrari 348TB, one of only 60 pre-production cars and with just 2,500 km on the clock, is estimated at between €130,000 and €150,000.

More unusual lots in the auction include a 1919 Hamlet, an early Danish motorcycle believed to be the only one in the world, estimated at €17,000 to €20,000. A 1967 Amphicar CV770 bought and restored by Mike Brewer and Edd China and featured as the ‘star car’ on the television series, Wheeler Dealers, will be offered with a sale estimate of €55,000 to €65,000.
