  • Second-ever Salon Privé Sale with auction partner, Silverstone Auctions, held in the grounds of Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire

Silverstone, 8 September 2015

Silverstone Auctions’ second-ever Salon Privé sale has been a resounding success. Held in the grounds of Blenheim Palace on Friday 4 September, the auction house sold a plethora of noteworthy cars, generating a total sales value of £5,000,000*.

Headlining the evening’s sale was an original 1968 Aston Martin DB6 Vantage Volante. The car, one of 29 built, was sold for £900,000* – £75,000 over its lower estimate. Finished in striking and original California Sage Green paintwork with contrasting natural tan hide interior, the UK-supplied example was sold with full inspection from Aston Martin specialists as well as a full service and remedial works being carried out.

Proving that Porsche prices are continuing to rise, a pair of limited edition Porsche 911 997s were auctioned and achieved superb results. The first, a 2011 Porsche 997 GT3 RS 4.0 achieved £281,250* – £31,250 over its lower estimate. The car was one of only 600 cars produced by the marque to celebrate the last-ever 997 variant of the iconic 911. Another rare 997 leaving the auction room was a 2010 Porsche 911 GT2 RS – one of the fastest-ever production Porsches available. The striking one of 16 UK-supplied RHD cars achieved £315,000*.

Another classic Porsche spiked the interest of bidders – a 1986 911 SuperSport, which was offered with a mere 743kms on the clock at ‘no reserve’ and achieved £163,125*.

Ferrari models were equally in demand – a 1989 328 GTS achieved a price of £137,250* – £27,250 over its lower estimate. The car, which had covered just 1600 miles since new, was once held in Mohammed Al-Fayed’s car collection.

A modern 1999 Ferrari 550 Maranello was also sold for a significant figure. The UK-supplied RHD car, finished in Argento Nurburgring paint with contrasting Bordeaux red interior left the auction room for £110,250* – £45,250 over its lower estimate.

A further Italian supercar caught the attention of the Salon Privé buyers – a 1998 Lamborghini Diablo SV, finished in gleaming Blue Scuro paintwork, sold for £185,000* – £45,000 over its lower estimate. The one-of-three UK RHD specification Diablo variant came complete with sports exhaust and 5.7-litre V12 engine.

Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions, says: “The Salon Privé Sale is one of our headline sales of the year – it has been a true pleasure to return to this superb event and sell some of the most iconic and desirable modern and classic cars. Silverstone Auctions is a leader in Seventies, Eighties and Nineties classics – exactly the cars that received the highest prices of the night.

“The auction’s atmosphere was electric – with telephone and online bidders competing with buyers in the Garden Room marquee at Blenheim Palace. The prices achieved were testament to the quality and significance of the cars presented.”

Consignments are now being invited into The Porsche Sale, with interest placed on high-end classic and modern Porsches. The sale is held in conjunction with Porsche Club GB and takes place on Sunday 25 October.
