BMW Z3 (1995-2002)

In January 1996, BMW launched the first automobile model manufactured exclusively abroad (Spartanburg plant) with the Z3 roadster at the Detroit Motor Show. The two-seater had already received popular acclaim through its spectacular appearance in the James Bond film "Golden Eye".

 

BMW Z3 roadster 1.8

The BMW Z3 1.8 roadster was the entry-level model and was powered by the familiar 4-cylinder engine generating 115 hp.

BMW Z3 roadster 1.9

The BMW Z3 1.9 roadster provided a second 4-cylinder model in the range until 1999. The 140 hp delivered sporty performances and ensured it became one of the most popular roadsters in the entire Z3 family.

BMW Z3 roadster 2.0

BMW also supplied the small 6-cylinder engine with displacement of 2.0 litres and generating 150 hp for the Z3 roadster between 1999 and 2000. The launch of the new generation of engines in autumn 2000 meant that the BMW Z3 2.0 was replaced by the new model with a 2.2 litre 6-cylinder engine.

BMW Z3 roadster 2.2i

The launch of the new engine generations in autumn 2000 provided an innovation for the smallest 6-cylinder engine at BMW: The displacement was increased to 2.2 litres for the first time since 1977. This enabled the new engine to generate a robust 170 hp and delivered a great deal of driving pleasure particularly in the compact Z3 roadster.

BMW Z3 roadster 2.3

The BMW Z3 2.3 launched in 1999 was intended exclusively for the American market. It completed the 6-cylinder range in America with its 2.5 litre 6-cylinder engine and 170 hp alongside the Z3 2.8 and the M coupé.

BMW Z3 roadster 2.5i

The Z3 2.5i was launched on the North American market in the year 2000 as a successor to the BMW Z3 2.3. The 6-cylinder engine (M54) now generated 184 hp for the same displacement. The model remained in the product range until 2002.

The year 2000 brought with it a model and engine revision for the successful BMW Z3. The new 3.0 litre engine generating 231 hp replaced the previous 2.8 litre model and transformed the small roadster into a superior driving machine.

The BMW Z3 coupé based on the successful BMW Z3 roadster was launched on the market in spring of 1998. The individually styled coupé had impressive driving performance and was supplied exclusively with 6-cylinder engines. The BMW Z3 coupé 2.8 provided the entry-level vehicle to this unusual class generating 193 hp. The engine was familiar from the BMW 3 Series and effortlessly powered the compact two-seater as well as ensuring exceptional driving pleasure.

BMW Z3 coupé 3.0i

The individually styled coupé shone with outstanding handling and was supplied exclusively with 6-cylinder engines. From June 2000, the 3.0i generating 231 hp replaced the previous 2.8 litre engine generating 193 hp. This enabled BMW to create the ultimate driving machine: lightweight, compact, powerful, extremely fast and with full everyday utility. Nearly 4,000 units were manufactured and this made the Z3 coupé 3.0i one of the coveted classics even today.
