BMW Large Coupé Models (1968-1975)
BMW 2800 CS
After the launch in September 1968, production of this first BMW six-cylinder coupé after the War started up as early as December. The bodywork
built by German coach builder Karmann was a further development of the type BMW 2000 C/CS Coupé. Exclusiveness and dynamic driving style meant
that this model soon became a collector's item. In spring 1971, the BMW 2800 CS was replaced by the 180 bhp BMW 3.0 CS.

BMW 2.5 CS
The BMW 2.5 CS was launched in February 1974, the last new model of the BMW Coupé in the E9 Series. A big factor in the background to the
launch of this more economical 150 bhp version was the oil crisis at that time. This model was also available at a price that was DM 4,000 lower than
the BMW 3.0 CS due to the less elaborate equipment. This made it easier to join the exclusive club of BMW Coupé owners.

BMW 3.0 CSL, 180 bhp
BMW developed a lightweight version of the type 3.0 CS as a basic vehicle for use in motor sport in 1971. By using alloy bodywork components,
thinner glass and reducing insulation material and luxury equipment, a weight-saving of up to 200 kg was achieved. This model was intended as a
basic vehicle for motor sport, which it dominated for a time. However, most customers used their BMW 3.0 CSL in everyday traffic. After only 169
cars with a carburettor engine, the 3.0 CSL was fitted with the 200 bhp injection engine of the BMW 3.0 CSi.
