Since the launch of the Z3 roadster manufactured exclusively at the BMW plant in Spartanburg (USA) in 1995, other more powerful versions were developed continuously. The most powerful model from 1997 was the BMW M roadster with the engineering of the M3 based on the 3 Series. Significant body modifications highlight the massive potential for power in this two-seater. The fact that this unusually high level of driving pleasure was supplied at an astonishingly favourable price continued to contribute to the success of this model.

BMW M coupé (E36/7)

The BMW Z3 coupé based on the successful BMW Z3 roadster was launched on the market in spring of 1998. The individually styled coupé provided impressive credentials with outstanding handling and it was supplied exclusively with 6-cylinder engines. In 1998, BMW again presented an automobile in a class of its own with the M coupé. Equipped with the components from the BMW M3, the Z3 coupé developed into the ultimate driving machine, the like of which could otherwise only be achieved by top-class sports cars. Starting in 2001, the model was supplied with 325 hp.
